Smile Hi there

I am new to this forum. I am arriving in Zermatt on 25th January for a weeks skiing and am trying to find out if you can use a credit card (mastercard or visa) to pay for the ski pass? It seems very difficult to obtain information about this from anywhere official!

If anyone can help that would be great.

Hi Louise - welcome to zermatt - have fun!

Yes, you can pay for your ski pass with visa/mc - won't be a problem. Just keep your credit card in check when you go out for dinner and drinks... it's expensive!

Hi Louise S !
Welcome on the Zermatt Talk.
From the very start at the Matterhorn Terminal in Täsch you can use your creditcard (Mastercard/Visa). You'll find your first ATM in Täsch where you can get your first SWISS FRANCS. Don't forget your secret code when you want to get cash money that way. Mastercard and Visa are most frequently accepted. Sometimes they also accept American Express and Diners Club. For the ski pass they ONLY ACCEPT the Visa/Mastercard or (if you have a European Card) the MAESTRO-function on your card that replaces the former EC-cheques.

You don't need lot's of cash. Most restaurants, hotels, appartment, etc. are equipped with special devices ready to read you creditcard. Please ask for it. In Zermatt you also have several posibilities to take cash if you really need.

If this is the first time you are in Zermatt I can also advise you some store where you can use your creditcard for food, drinks etc.: the store is called COOP, situated in front of the Bahnhof (=railwaystation).

You only need some cash money if you want to drink/eat something in one the typical restaurants/bars on the ski slopes.

I don't know where you are from but I suppose you already know that there is a Swiss and Italian side around the Matterhorn. If you are going to the Italian side you also need EUROS. The ATMs in Switserland only distribute Swiss Francs! You have to go to some Bank. Although they accept in Italy also the Swiss Francs but it's cheaper if you buy your Italian Cappucino in Euros. And if you have really time enough to go to Italy I can recommend you one of my favourite bars where you can have the best Cappucino at the end of slope "N°7" in BREUIL-CERVINIA (Italy) ! Several couches are waiting for people, straigth into the sun, for those who want some small break on the ski slopes having their typical Cappucino or Italian speciality. It's really worth it and I am sure you will enjoy it.
If you need more information, please do not hesitate to ask!

Wish you lot's of fun !
Dennis

Enjoy your holidays nearby the Matterhorn!
