Default Cafe Ritti

Hi, First post here.. and as a Zermatt regular I definitely want to mention Restaurant Riti as my absolute favorite.
It is a small restaurant situated on the hike trail (or if you prefer next to the ski piste) between Riffelalp and Furi. It stands for what makes Zermatt so special among all other mountain resorts I know:
- Privacy: you first have to discover it. If you ski down, you need to find the very adventurous trail through the forest leading you right on the terasse. (There is of course an easier way, but that's less fun). Having to discover the place makes the experience even more rewarding. The off-piste location makes it very quiet and peaceful and yet it is situated right in the middle of the Zermatt hike trails/ski slopes.
- Authenticity: the place itself is fantastic. it is an old wooden Chalet with a great terasse giving you that authentic feel many other places lack.
- Hospitality: You get a great welcome! Bruno and Vreni are wonderful hosts, if you go there twice, Vreni will remember you and continue the discussion you had with her the previous time (even if that was 2 years before).
- The food: They have great homemade Quiche, my favorite röstis in he whole world and of course, Bruno makes arguably the best Apfelstrudel in Zermatt. Also, the choice of Abricotine for the "Cafe Ritti" is briliant. (Don't miss it, it will make you ski better or walk faster).

Everytime I come to Zermatt, I always pay Vreni and Bruno at least one visit. When things get though in my life, I try to imagine I am at Restaurant Ritti

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I had a splendid time in Zermatt this year, where I finally managed to fulfill my Zinalrothorn dream.
Going back to flat Berlin, where I live and work at the moment, I decided to start building a website to document the side of Zermatt I love.

Every time I get out on hike or ski trails, I meet a lot of people I can share some of my local knowledge with. Stuff they don't really find anywhere else, like random historical facts, stories about places and people, special hikes and ski trails. I believe that if you involve people emotionally and have them relate to human beings instead of the number of 4000er they see, they will go home with stronger memories and something to tell to the people they know. I figured I might as well extend the reach of that missioning work by doing a website.

It's still pretty much a draft with the basic structure and the articles I am planing to write if I get enough spare time to.
Also I am playing a lot with google earth at the moment. Have you checked it out? Zermatt is quite impressive in there and it has a lot of potential for guides and reviews.

Anyway check out the draft I did with iWeb and tell me if anyone is interested in any form of contribution, collaboration or feedback.

Hope to see you soon in Zermatt

Cedric

Very nice iWeb production you have, prehaps a little more colour and it would be great. Also the front page could have more writing. The descriptions for things like places and hiking are great.

How long have you been going to Zermatt?

Been going to Zermatt basically my whole life...Summer and Winter.

I grew up in Lausanne and would come up every other week-end in the winter doing my homework in the BVZ. During winter holydays I would spend my time skiing and hoping that an avalanche hits the railroad track.
In the summer, I would follow the footsteps of my granddad on the hiking paths. Catch poor tadpoles in the Stelisee and sleep at Fluhalp or Trift.
No that I live a bit further away, I try to come at least twice a year. Every time, it feels like coming home.

What about you? How long have you been going there?

By the way, thanks a lot for the feedback! I will continue to write and keep you posted.

Ive been going for over 10 years now, and it certianly does feel like coming home every year.

Sadley I only come once a year but I learn to cherish it till the next time... Where do you stay I am usually in the Seiler Hotels which are brilliant. Next easter we are in a Scott Dunn Chalet which will be great!

When are you next there?

Hi Cedric! A very interesting page you have! I do want to improve in my climbing and hopefully in the future do some of the climbs you did. Do you know the page Summit post? http://www.summitpost.org/

I love it there!
