yes, lots of 4-star hotels in zermatt - all of which are booked out over christmas this year - normally, people book for christmas/easter in zermatt a year in advance!

also, a lot of the hotels request a 2 week stay over christmas/easter because it's a very hectic time of year. You can try looking for a chalet, but i'm pretty sure most are also booked out too.

good luck

Also you could try http://www.zermatt.ch, select the english version (click on the British flag) and choose the direct reservation option (left hand side of web page), if you haven't already found something. You can also just click on the Lodging option (top right hand side of the page) to view the various categories of hotels and link to their web sites.

The hotels (in town) that I've stayed in most recently are the Allalin and Romantik Hotel Julen - both very nice. The Allalin is a "garni" hotel, meaning they serve breakfast only and don't have a regular restaurant. The Julen has a very good restaurant (main floor), as well as a cozy stubli downstairs. (They also have a very nice spa.)

I hope you find, or have found a hotel as I am sure Zermatt is even more magical at Christmas time. (Someday I plan to experience Christmas there myself!)

Thanks - I am one of those people who plan their vacations way in advance - at least a year. I've already planned all 4 of my precious weeks for next year, and am now working on 2008!

zermatt is always booked out a year in advance over christmas and easter, but i thought i'd just add it's the middle of november here and we have had a spectacular autumn in that it's been warm and sunny almost every day through sept. oct. november...

so while we don't have to pray for guests... somebody better start praying for snow
