Default Ski work

Hello people of Zermatt,

My girlfriend Megan and I are looking to come to Zermatt in the next few weeks to look for Work this season.

I don't have a clue about Zermatt, so if anybody has any useful information about the town that you think will help such as,

* Apartments to rent for the season?
* Prices of accomadation for the season?
* Job availability for a chef and a waitress?
* Lift pass cost?
* Ski rent cost?

And just any other random things you think we may need to know before we come out and start looking?

Or if anybody in Zermatt with any links to Bars/Restaurants or Hotels out there that may be looking for staff, then they would also be very much appreciated?

Thanks peeps

Rob

Hi Rob and welcome to Zermatt-Talk,

Some information for you regarding your questions:

Lift pass cost: Well for a week the price for Zermatt and Cervinia is about 350 CHF, if you are there for a whole season it is much more reasonable at about 1'530 CHF, this would be from November to March/April. You could go for a cheaper ticket covering just Zermatt but to be honest if you have a good day then Italy is great to ski in.

Ski rent cost: This changes so much and to be honest there are so many place to get kit from that telling you one price would be useless . So have a look at these websites and check out the kit yourself, my personal favorite is Julen sport, they are one of the best boot fitters in Zermatt.

http://www.julensport.ch/ (Private place my recommendation)
http://www.glacier-intersport.ch/ (the classic Inter-Sport, found all over Europe)

Job availability for a chef and a waitress: If you are looking at doing this then working in a chalet would be your best bet. Talk to Scott Dunn and maybe to Mountain exposure, they seem to be looking for people to work all the time. Also have a look at a website called Natives, they have lots of information regarding jobs in ski resorts, and also have a section with available jobs.

http://www.scottdunn.com/winter-season-ski-jobs.html
http://www.mountainexposure.com/zerm...-aboutus/jobs/
http://www.natives.co.uk/

Apartments to rent for the season: Your best bet with this is to go through google, my recommendation for you would be to go through the Zermatt website, and search for accommodation, they have long term and short term rentals, plus you can talk to them perhaps about a deal for long term rentals, other wise it would be very very very expensive. As for prices they will be listed on the website.

As for things that you should know, some people say that Zermatt can become quite claustrophobic, as you have no real way to getting to other resorts. But on the plus side it is an amazing place so to be honest you would have any problems there, plus you wont really want to leave at the end of the season. Zermatt is expensive, there is no denying that, the cost of a coke is one of the most pricey in the whole of europe, so be prepared to be spending a big hefty amount of money each day on food, but if you want to eat pot noodles that is also a possibility. Easier option is to work in a chalet and each the food there!

Hope this helps,

Gebs
