Travel to Zermatt

Hi
Am new to the site and am enjoying all the posts! Want to find some info on skiing, hostel accommodation etc. Not to sure under which topic to start this thread.

Want to visit Zermatt during June/July for a 3night/4day visit to ski. Never been to Zermatt, will this short period of time be okay?

Want to stay in Youth hostel. Don't have a problem with that type of accommodation. Is there one near the ski lifts?

What all do I need to book in advance - except the accommodation? And what all do I need to enjoy a day of skiing - skipass/liftpass/equipment etc?

Sorry about all the questions but surfed the internet and get a lot of contradictory info!!
